Blogger Recognition Award

I would like to start by thanking  The Financial Journeyman for nominating me for the Blogger Recognition Award.  We have been blogging for a while now and this recognition is a big deal to us.  With all the personal finance and early retirement blogs out there, it is a true honor see you took the time to read ours and to get a bit of recognition.

The Blogger Recognition Award

The Blogger Recognition Award is an award for bloggers that is given by fellow bloggers.  It is like the (chain letters) from the past.  We just pass the ball and help put a smile on some other blogger’s face. Not only is it nice to get some little trophy once in a while but it also helps the smaller guys get discovered. (OK, there’s no trophy but we should maybe make one.)

Why we started blogging

Working full-time and slaying away for Mega-Corp was never the goal. Almost two years ago, we discovered MMM and once we started to realize the possibilities, we were just amazed to see how people were able to retire in their 30s, 40s. We then made it our goal to retire early. Once we started reading more and more blogs, we wanted to share our own story. After reading and learning so much from the great writers out there, we wanted to give our share of knowledge.

We started blogging in 2016 with the goal to share our journey towards financial freedom and our thoughts along the way. It is really nice to write down all of this, it shares our ideas with the world and keeps us accountable. One of our favorite feature on the blog is the Retirement Progress Bar on your right, it tracks how far along we are in your journey towards financial freedom in a percentage.

Blogging is no easy job. It takes a ton of hours, tons of research, and passion but it is fun. We are talking about hundreds of hours. It is especially rewarding to hear from you guys in the comment section or on social media and share ideas back and forth.

Advice for New Bloggers

Tip #1

If you are starting a blog, be passionate. We cannot repeat this enough, be passionate. If you are starting a blog, have fun with it, blog about something that excites you. Blog about something that makes you smile just thinking about it. I literally wake up some nights thinking about new travel hacks. (I know, nerd alert!) If you are in it just for the money and fame, you will not survive more than a few months before running out of things to write. Writing good content takes a long time and if you are not really into what you are writing you will be staring at a blank page pretty quick.

Tip #2

Just as in investments, you need to think about blogging as a long-term project. You cannot expect to start a blog in October and be running passive-income machine by November. This will take time. This will take passion. Just start slowly, get involved in the community, and enjoy the journey. You can make a lot of money with affiliate links or advertising agencies online but this will come later. When you are just starting out, focus on your passion and write, write, write!

Starting your own blog is cheaper than you think! Give it a try.
